User Guide

🎙️Recording+
  1. Open the Record tab (bottom center)
  2. Tap the red record button to start
  3. Speak — you'll see a live waveform and timer
  4. Tap Pause to pause, or Stop to finish
  5. Your recording is saved automatically and appears in the Library
💡 Tip: Recording continues in the background if you switch apps or lock your screen. You'll see a Dynamic Island indicator on supported devices.
✨Transcription+
  1. Open any recording from the Library
  2. Tap "Transcribe Now" below the player
  3. First time only: confirm the one-time model download (~140 MB)
  4. Wait for transcription to complete (typically a few seconds per minute of audio)
  5. Your transcript appears with word-level timestamps
💡 Tip: Free users get 5 transcriptions per month. Pro users get unlimited. You can see your remaining count in Settings.
🏷️Adding Tags+
  1. Open a recording from the Library
  2. Tap the ⋯ (more) button in the top-right corner
  3. Select "Tags" from the menu
  4. Tap "Create New Tag" — choose a name and color
  5. Tap any existing tag to toggle it on/off for this recording
💡 Tip: You can also manage all your tags from Settings → Manage Tags. Tags support nesting — create a parent tag like "Work" and child tags like "Meetings" and "Ideas".
📁Creating Folders+
  1. In the Library, tap the ⋯ (more) button in the top-right corner
  2. Select "Manage Folders"
  3. Tap "+" to create a new folder
  4. To move a recording into a folder: open the recording → ⋯ → "Move to Folder"
💡 Tip: Folders help you group recordings by project, class, or topic. Deleting a folder does not delete the recordings inside — they move back to the main Library.
🔍Searching+
  1. Open the Search tab (bottom right)
  2. Type any word — search covers both titles and full transcript text
  3. Tap a result to open the recording, scrolled to the matching section
💡 Tip: You can also use Find in Transcript: open a recording → ⋯ → "Find in Transcript" to search within a single recording with match highlighting.
📥Importing Audio & Call Recordings+
  1. In the Library, tap "Import Audio" at the top
  2. Select one or more audio files from the Files app
  3. Supported formats: .m4a, .mp3, .wav, .aiff, .caf
  4. Imported recordings appear in the Library with an import icon
  5. Tap to open, then transcribe as usual
💡 Tip: iOS 18.1+ call recordings are saved as .m4a files. You can import them into Tuck Voice for transcription and full-text search — everything stays on your device.
📤Exporting & Sharing+
  1. Open a recording that has been transcribed
  2. Tap the ⋯ (more) button in the top-right corner
  3. Choose your export format: PDF, TXT, or SRT (subtitles)
  4. The iOS Share Sheet opens — send via AirDrop, Mail, save to Files, or any app
💡 Tip: You can also use "Share Transcript" (text only), "Copy Transcript" (to clipboard), or "Share Audio File" (the original recording) from the same menu.
☁️iCloud Sync+
  1. Go to Settings → iCloud Sync
  2. Toggle sync ON
  3. Your recordings and transcripts sync to your personal iCloud account
  4. On another device signed into the same Apple ID, enable sync to see your recordings
💡 Tip: Sync is off by default. Audio files count against your iCloud storage. We cannot access your iCloud data — it's stored in a private database only you can read.
⚡Playback & Navigation+
  1. Open any recording to see the audio player at the top
  2. Use ◀15 / 15▶ buttons to skip forward or backward
  3. Tap the speed button (1.0x) to change playback speed (0.5x to 2.0x)
  4. Tap any transcript segment to jump to that moment in the audio
  5. The currently playing segment is highlighted automatically
💡 Tip: If you scroll the transcript manually, auto-scroll pauses. Tap "Resume following" to re-enable it.

Quick answers to common questions.

How does transcription work?+
Tuck Voice uses WhisperKit (based on OpenAI's Whisper model) to convert speech to text entirely on your device. The first time you transcribe, a one-time ~140 MB model download is required. After that, transcription works offline — no internet needed.
Is my data private?+
Yes, completely. All recording and transcription happens on your device. We don't operate any servers, collect any data, or use any analytics. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
What's included in the free version?+
Free users get unlimited recordings and playback, 5 transcriptions per month, 3 tags, full-text search, iCloud sync, and all export formats (PDF, TXT, SRT). Pro removes the transcription and tag limits.
How do I upgrade to Pro?+
Go to Settings in the app and tap 'Upgrade to Pro'. It's a one-time purchase of $3.99 — no subscription. You can also upgrade when you reach the free transcription or tag limit.
Can I restore my purchase on a new device?+
Yes. Go to Settings and tap 'Restore Purchase'. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase.
Where are tags and folders?+
Tags: Open any recording → tap ⋯ → Tags → Create New Tag. Folders: In the Library → tap ⋯ → Manage Folders. You can also manage tags and folders from Settings.
Can I import call recordings?+
Yes. If you have iOS 18.1 or later, phone call recordings are saved as .m4a files. Use the "Import Audio" button in the Library to bring them into Tuck Voice for transcription. Everything is processed on your device.
What audio formats are supported for import?+
Tuck Voice can import .m4a, .mp3, .wav, .aiff, and .caf files from the Files app.
Does iCloud sync use my storage?+
Yes, iCloud sync stores your recordings and transcripts in your personal iCloud account. Audio files count against your iCloud storage quota. Sync is optional and off by default.
The transcription quality isn't great. What can I do?+
Try switching to a larger model in Settings → Transcription Model. The 'Small' model is more accurate but requires more memory and storage. Also, recording in a quieter environment significantly improves accuracy.
Can I record phone calls directly?+
No — iOS does not allow any app to access phone call or FaceTime audio directly. This is an Apple platform restriction. However, you can import iOS 18.1+ call recordings via the Files app.
Which devices are supported?+
Tuck Voice requires iOS 17 or later. It works on iPhone and iPad. The transcription engine uses Apple's Neural Engine, which is available on all devices that support iOS 17.
How do I delete a recording?+
Swipe left on any recording in the Library and tap Delete. Deleted recordings are kept for 30 days in case you change your mind, then permanently removed.
Can I edit a transcript?+
Yes. Long-press any transcript segment to see options: Edit Text, Play from Here, or Copy Segment. Editing lets you fix recognition errors.
